How to Dispose of Gel Ice Packs

Businesses worldwide are facing sustainability challenges — and rising pressures from eco-conscious consumers and regulatory bodies. Cold chain shippers can face these pressures head-on by adopting more sustainable packaging practices.

At Pelton Shepherd, we understand the challenge of practicing sustainability while keeping shipping costs low, and we offer solutions to address this obstacle. Many of our gel packs are reusable or feature a recyclable pouch. Our TerraTemp line, in particular, was designed to provide cost-effective sustainability and low-impact disposal.

See our gel pack disposal instructions below to learn more about our refrigerants and how end users can handle them.

Glacier Moisture Guard

Glacier Moisture Guard is our sweat-proof gel pack featuring a unique, moisture-wicking pouch. End users can dispose of Glacier Moisture Guard in the following ways:

Discard

To discard Glacier Moisture Guard gel packs, end users can cut the corner of the pouch and pour the gel into the trash. They can also spread the gel outside in a pet-free area. Even though it’s non-toxic, the gel inside Glacier Moisture Guard can clog pipes if poured down the drain.

Once the gel has been removed, end users can toss the film in the trash. Whole gel packs may also be disposed of according to local and state laws.

Reuse

Glacier Moisture Guard gel packs are reusable. End users simply need to clean them before freezing and packing them with their perishables.

The contents of all of our gel packs are nontoxic and should not be harmful if ingested in small quantities by your child, dog, or other pet. However, if you have any concerns we recommend you contact your doctor, veterinarian or local poison control center immediately.
